Adobe Care and Wellness: Helping deliver Covid-19 vaccines to those in need

Arizona has administered more than 6 million Covid-19 vaccines since December and Adobe Care and Wellness is proud to be a part of the vaccination effort. As more vaccination sites opened and vaccines became more readily available, it’s no longer necessary to go online and book an appointment or drive long distances to get vaccinated. Vaccines are now being administered at local pharmacies, doctors’ offices and neighborhood clinics. Yet, there are still individuals and have challenges getting to those locations. That is where Adobe Care and Wellness is stepping in to help. Collaborating with insurance providers and organizations that we are contracted with, we are identifying individuals that may not have the ability to get to a vaccine site and reaching out to provide a mobile vaccine service – sending nurses to homes to administer Covid-19 vaccines.

This outreach is bringing access to individuals without transportation or with mobility issues due to health and age or that live in more remote areas. The goal is to make sure anyone that wants and/or needs a vaccine is able to get one.

Despite the availability and the number of people that have safely received vaccines, there are still people that are reticent or still have questions. If you are contemplating whether to get the vaccine or have concerns, here’s some information and benefits to consider:

Safety and effectiveness

Do the vaccines really work? More than 302 million people in the United States have received the vaccine, allowing for research to surpass clinical trials and reflect real-time effectiveness on the general public. The vaccines that are currently available in the U.S. (Johnson & Johnson, Moderna and Pfizer) have been proven to be 66 to 95 percent effective at preventing severe illness, hospitalization and death. This is especially true for those 65 and older and with other health risks that make them more susceptible to more extreme illnesses resulting from Covid-19. In comparison, the annual flu shot is shown to have a 40 to 60 percent effectiveness rate.

Another concern is the speed at which the vaccines were developed. As a result, the COVID-19  vaccination process has undergone the most intense safety monitoring in United States history. Prior to distribution, the Pfizer-BioNTech, Moderna and Johnson & Johnson vaccines were consistently tested to meet all Food and Drug Administration scientific standards. Since vaccine administration began, very few problematic reactions have arisen, and those that do are extremely rare. The blood clotting that prompted the pause of the J&J vaccine was shown to affect individuals ages 18 to 49 primarily at a rate of 7 in every 1 million. For those older than 49 this is even less likely to occur.

The overall effectiveness of the vaccines is being monitored closely and is proving to be successful in preventing serious illness and complex health issues.

Eliminates risk of suffering

If you contract COVID-19 and you are lucky enough to be asymptomatic, suffering no symptoms of illness, you are still at risk of health complications. Many COVID-19 survivors have long haulers, where they continue to experience symptoms including fatigue, loss of taste and smell, nerve pain and other more serious health-related issues. This can last weeks or months after the virus is first detected. Unfortunately, we are still learning the long-term effects,

For those that did contract COVID-19, they will develop natural immunity.  However, antibody protection is shown to decrease over time, especially with the continuing variation in viral strands. Natural immunity is not nearly as effective or protective as the vaccine. And for those that did not contract COVID-19 and are unvaccinated, they remain at greater risk of getting sick from the new variants.

Decreases transmission

Preventative measures, such as social distancing and wearing masks, are shown to be effective in reducing virus spread. But now that more people are vaccinated, mask mandates and wearing of masks are quickly going away. Fortunately, the vaccine is showing to also help reduce transmission.  The vaccine interacts with the immune system helping the body develop antibodies that provide prolonged protection. Keeping more people healthy, helps minimize transmission and will also help minimize increasing mutations that will create new variants.

Return to normalcy

While the primary benefit of a vaccine is health, the other major benefit of being vaccinated is the ability to safely resume most activities without the need for a mask or social distancing. As the opportunity to travel both domestically and internationally opens up, sporting events and other entertainment return, along with celebrations with family, weddings and graduations, vaccinations allow individuals to participate without worry. Most importantly, vaccines provide peace of mind for hugging loved ones without fear of harm. Vaccines are our best tool for defeating the virus and returning to what will be our new normal.

At Adobe Care and Wellness, we are passionate about providing care and services that help increase positive outcomes. Individuals eligible for our mobile vaccine service, will receive the Johnson & Johnson (J&J) vaccine, which is one shot, and it is available without ever having to leave the comfort of home.
